Can’t Beet This Followup

Just a quick update about the Sugar Beet syrup I made. I have now used it in my Flax-Squash Bread and it is a perfectly acceptable alternative to the Apple Cider syrup I usually use in the recipe. The bread seems a little sweeter than usual, which I like.

I got a question about using the Sugar Beet syrup on pancakes. I don’t think I’d recommend it because the syrup has a fairly strong earthy taste that might not taste so great on pancakes. Maybe if another flavor, like vanilla or some maple syrup, were added it might work.

In any event, given my results I encourage you to try growing sugar beets and making sugar. I love the feeling of self-sufficiency I get when I do things like grow and make my own sugar.
